2003 Falcor Bacigalupi Vineyard Chardonnay, Russian River  -  90 points
It is not often a new name bursts onto the scene with wines of the quality delivered by these Falcor Chardonnays, but this brace has earned its way to the top by virtue of maximally expressed depth, richness and solidity.  Yes, both of them are writ somewhat larger than life and are unlikely to be mistaken for wimpy wine (if Ravenswood were ever to produce top drawer Chardonnays, it should make them like these).  And it is true that some tasters will find them over the top stylistically.  But, in this bottling, by way of example, one finds intense ripe, sweet fruit enhanced with notes of honey, bacon, applesauce, Meyer lemons and roasted vanilla beans.  Its finish is long, broad and a touch hot, but this is big Chardonnay for big palates. 

2003 Falcor Genny’s Vineyard Chardonnay, Napa Valley  -  90 points
There are no holds barred with this extravagant effort, and if its mate is just a touch fruitier by comparison, this wine is a touch richer and beamier.  It delivers amazingly deep, complex aromas and flavors, and its mouth-filling palatal impact carries its varied pieces into a long, slightly hot finish.  It and its sibling will serve well with savory preparations of the fleshy fishes, with chicken in rich sauces and even with veal.
